Feature to allow location of computer via "Find" box

Such as that found in AD.

e.g. a user rings me and needs hellp with their PC. The only information they're going to be able to provide me with from their end is the computer name or IP.

I don't have a photographic memory containing all of the hundreds of PC on my network, and which container they're in within the VENM console. Armed with the user's PC name (or possibly IP?) It would be a great time saver to be able to input this into a search function and have the console automatically bring up that machine & display it in the console, ready for connection, etc.

Someone also mentioned a feature to search for a machine via "logged on user" - This would be very useful, as sometimes the "Asset tag" can often be incorrect or missing from the outside of the computer, and users can often not have access to the Control panel in order to obtain the computer name, or simply not really know how to do this, even if you walk them through it over the phone.

Display Contact information in bottom Status window

Could more control over the lower status window be added? I mostly connect/select machines based on the Contact information rather than have the user find the computer name. It would be great to beable to have the phone number of that user added to status/information window at the bottom of VENM Console?

"Passwords Visible" as preference

Please add a preference switch to make passwords visible (human readable) in the property sheets.

Storage as encrypted is okay so files can't be snarfed and used to break in (too easily), but with 228
systems to manage (all with unique passwords, much to my dismay) keeping track of passwords is a real problem.

Window resize

Steve,

Now that Apple fixed Safari for Windows so it can be re-sized from any side or corner, it's time to do the same for VNCScan.

At any one time I have 6-8 windows spread across multiple screens and it would be much nicer if I could grab any exposed edge to re-size the form.

How about the ability to remotely connect to a networked computers registry, just add it to the windows management menu

I, like many others in the forum, work in a mixed Windows, Linux, Unix environment. It would certainly be nice to have a putty like connection to servers directly from the Connect menu so we wouldn't have to create custom commands just for this one connection. Thanks for the great product!

Multiple Monitors

We are using VNCScan in a school environment and we have several labs that use dual monitors. When viewing thumbnails of these labs only the primary monitor is displayed, is there some way to have it also capture the secondary monitor?

I was wondering if you could find a way to include this tool its very handy right now i just write it in to remote scripts but you might have a better way that it could be included so i wouldn't have to attach it.

Is there any way to have the cmd window stay open after running a script?

This way, if there are any errors, you would at least get a clue as to what you did wrong.

You can usually keep it open by using a pause command, but that only works when you are sending a local cammand and not when running a script.

Auto Scale Size or Hotkeys

I have been requesting this for some time now and haven't heard any response yet... I was hoping to get this ability in a future release.

Basically, I would like to be able to set the scale size per machine. I know that there are scale options in the machine properties however it is only 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4... When I scale a connection I always use auto scale which is easily acheived by hitting CTRL+ALT+F10 after connecting. It would make it a bit easier to set it in the options so when you connect so it does this automatically. Either through the scale setting or the ability to set hotkeys per machine. Also another good Hotkey is CTRL+ALT+F4 (CTRL+ALT+DEL) to remote machine. So It would be nice to be able to do this one way or the other....

Ability to get "Asset Tag"

I would like to be able to get pre-set asset tags off from computers much like the "Who's Logged In?" option works.

It would also be nice if this was a sortable column much like "Last User(s)" is, too.

In the command window, running "WMIC SystemEnclosure get SMBIOSAssetTag" gives me that data.

I don't remember what program I had used before, but it was very similar to this one. In the tools menu, it had the "search for user" option, so I wouldn't have to call them to get their IP or computer name...I could just search for where they were logged on. It helped a lot, and would appreciate having it as an option.

Custom Commands & Remote scripts folders, etc...

It would be nice to have folders inside those two drop downs.

That way we could have many scripts/commands and put them in folders to organize them instead of one long list.

Also, it would be nice to have more options for custom commands. More like the remote scripts, but ran against the machine instead of on it. So, the script would have the ability to let you put in %host%.

We use some custom batch files that use %1, %2 variables that would be nice to add to VNCScan pulldowns.

Please add DNS by managed group.

My company is an MSP (Managed Service Provider) and we use the VENM Console in conjunction with VNC to provide remote helpdesk services at the workstation level for our clients most of which have their own AD domain.

Right now we add our clients networks as "Managed Groups" but one thing that would be really helpful is if we VENM had a provision in it to add a DNS resolver (or two) for that particular "Managed Group" so that the lookup by hostname function would work correctly.

Any chance of this being added?

In the latest version, we get New Managed Group & New Network Place, but no New Computer button.
Yes, I know we can right click in the area to the right and click Add Computer, but it was better below the Managed Groups.

Color Coding the Group List

It would be nice if we could color code, or highlight, the group list. For example; I could set my network printers to Blue, my servers to Yellow, the computers in need of upgrade or service to Red.

Wake up on LAN

When you send a wake up on LAN Packet to a group of PC's it comes back with a dialog for each PC.
When you wakeup a large group (like 20), then it's quite annoying to have to keep clicking OK on each.
Would it be possible to get just one dialog?

Computer/Device Status...

I would find it extremely helpfull if the computer list had a column or similar feature that would report the status of the computer or network device listed. All I can think of is a stop light showing running or good status, errors reported (snmp?) or off-line. I'm using What's Up Gold for similar functionality, but really don't need all that What's Up Gold offers other than just, is it alive and is it reporting an error. Updates would need to be variable, say from a few seconds on any particular machine to many mintues for the whole list.

It'd be nice to have a way to connect to the registry through the Windows Management menu and I'd think it would be easy to implement.

It would be really nice if you could see the registry of the current logged in user, but I doubt that would be nearly as easy.
