Right from the onset, whenever I would start vncscan.exe I would get the UAC prompt. It is during this time that I tried the compatibility options. Based on the VNCScan web site, I left the "Run as administrator" option checked.

Then I uninstalled (using just the app's uninstaller) the 4.4 version and installed the interim version with x64 support. I did not need to re-enter my license key and, the "Run as administrator" setting was remembered. Still, the UAC prompt occurred everytime. Then I noticed the latest version, 2008.6.1.

This time I did an app uninstall in the usual fashion. I also manually pruned any leftovers....folders, files, registry entries.

I then installed 2008.6.1. This time I did need to re-enter my license key, however, there was obviously still something left over from the previous installs since this install let me know I only had 8 days left on my trial. Odd...I says to myself.

With 2008.6.1 installed and my license key entered, and with NO compatibility options set for for my user session or for all users, I still get a UAC prompt whenever I start VNCScan.

I'm open to suggestions.
Re: Vista x64 - VNCScan Crashes - Debug info included in posthttp://talk.vncscan.com/forums/thread/2524.aspxFri, 30 May 2008 16:17:49 GMT21093a07-8b3d-42db-8cbf-3350fcbf5496:2524Steve0http://talk.vncscan.com/forums/thread/2524.aspxhttp://talk.vncscan.com/forums/commentrss.aspx?SectionID=6&PostID=2524I haven't seen that, either. It's possible that the compatibility option to always run as Administrator is checked. You can check this by right-clicking on vncscan.exe and choosing properties.

Really, the only thing that I know of where UAC becomes a problem with VNCScan is if you are storing your data on a network share. If anyone else sees a problem where UAC is getting in their way, please let me know.

I'll edit that recommendation on the website if I don't get any more reports. It was put up there when Vista was new and there were a lot of issues that UAC was causing. I think they are mostly a thing of the past, though.
Re: Vista x64 - VNCScan Crashes - Debug info included in posthttp://talk.vncscan.com/forums/thread/2523.aspxFri, 30 May 2008 16:04:51 GMT21093a07-8b3d-42db-8cbf-3350fcbf5496:2523onetimer0http://talk.vncscan.com/forums/thread/2523.aspxhttp://talk.vncscan.com/forums/commentrss.aspx?SectionID=6&PostID=2523Strange
My UAC is enabled and I never get a prompt when running vncscan.exe in Vista x64.

Re: Vista x64 - VNCScan Crashes - Debug info included in posthttp://talk.vncscan.com/forums/thread/2522.aspxFri, 30 May 2008 15:29:05 GMT21093a07-8b3d-42db-8cbf-3350fcbf5496:2522rondelv0http://talk.vncscan.com/forums/thread/2522.aspxhttp://talk.vncscan.com/forums/commentrss.aspx?SectionID=6&PostID=2522
Well, it's not a passion for UAC, just that, I believe that UAC is not as bad as it is portrayed.

As far as the issue with VNCScan on Vista (x64 in my case), vncscan.exe will not start without getting the UAC prompt. I have tried all manner of the Vista compatibility settings and I have not yet found any that do not cause the UAC prompt when vncscan.exe tries to start.

Given that VNCScan now runs on x64 without crashing (which is great I might add...thanks), having to live with the UAC prompt is nothing more than a minor inconvenience. However, I'd still like to see VNCScan be able to start without getting the prompt.

Ron....
Re: Vista x64 - VNCScan Crashes - Debug info included in posthttp://talk.vncscan.com/forums/thread/2507.aspxWed, 28 May 2008 22:59:33 GMT21093a07-8b3d-42db-8cbf-3350fcbf5496:2507Steve0http://talk.vncscan.com/forums/thread/2507.aspxhttp://talk.vncscan.com/forums/commentrss.aspx?SectionID=6&PostID=2507I understand your passion for UAC in Vista. It is wrong to suggest such a thing. UAC works fine and rarely occurs on my machine now that final configuration and tweaking are complete. Windows Vista and UAC are not going anywhere anytime soon. If other small application vendors and even freeware creators can make their apps work with UAC, so should VNCScan be able to be made to work with UAC.
Re: Vista x64 - VNCScan Crashes - Debug info included in posthttp://talk.vncscan.com/forums/thread/2503.aspxTue, 27 May 2008 21:22:32 GMT21093a07-8b3d-42db-8cbf-3350fcbf5496:2503onetimer0http://talk.vncscan.com/forums/thread/2503.aspxhttp://talk.vncscan.com/forums/commentrss.aspx?SectionID=6&PostID=2503Yes x64 is working better now.

My restore gave me all groups but only gave me half of my workstations.
