Hello,

I've been using the same deployment profile for months now without issue. I updated to version 2009.6.1.214 this morning, and any new deployment that I've attempted today has pushed out with the DSM turned on even though my deployment profile has it unchecked. I've tried creating a new profile, and come up with the same problem.

Here is the error:

Connection Failed - Invalid Protocol!

Possible causes:

-You've forgotten to select DSMPlugin and the server uses a DSMPlugin

Please help! I'm set to deploy VNCScan to 7 new admins this week!

remote scripts won't import into venm on vista

I'm running vista ultimate service sp1 and VENM 2008.4.4.213 fresh install on both

when I import or even manually copy my remote scripts into VENM, I goto tools/scripting and commands/remote script manager it shows me all my scripts but when I goto edit them I have the job name and the additional files but no script text. I have copied the folder with the scripts over from a backed up file and tried to do a restore and get the same results

upgraded from xp (which the scripts worked fine) wish I could chuck Vista back to MS and file it with ME and go back to XP but thats not the way our network is going.

I guess with out good old Bill the IT feild would get boring (if we didn't have all the ms updates and patches what else would we do ..) lol

Failed to connect to server

I just puchased VNCScan for a small school district in southern MO. I am trying to learn the program, so I created a small group and deployed to them--no problem. However, when I try to connect to any of them I get the message "failed to connect to server". I can ping it. I changed passwords for the machines. I logged on as an administrator to he computers and as a student. I disable the Windows firewall. I give up.

What's going on?

Hi.

Bozteck VENM Console ver. 2008.4.4.213

When scanning single computer for VNC/RDP, result is false/false, even if VNC on remote pc is on and ports are open.

When select all computers and "scan selected", all computers become true/true, even if half of them doesn't run vnc.

Refresh computers in domain shows computers, that are already turned off already.

Quarky issue with clipboard

So I developed a problem today that totally had me confused, I thought I'd post about it to help save others from the confusion if this happens to them. So recently our Anti-Virus broke and stop taking exceptions from the server. No problem except for it started detecting scrserv.exe (the program that grabs screenshots for thumbnails) as bad, and giving prompts to all my users. So I disabled the thumbnails until I have the problem with the AV server fixed. Well in the mean time I just opened all of the clients in thumbnail mode. Well today I came in and booted everything up as normal, except when I loaded up all the clients in VENM I connected to all of them as normal. Didn't think anything about it, saved me time from connecting to it when someone needed some help. Well, this was a bad idea. Whenever one user would copy something it would go to my clipboard, and then to all the other clients clipboards. So I had 40 people sharing a clipboard. I didn't put two an two together until about 15 minutes of searching franticly for a reason why. So just so everyone knows disable clipboard sharing if you're going to normally connect to more than 1 client that has a user on it. : P

Vista x64 - VNCScan Crashes - Debug info included in post

First, let me say that, when I found VNCScan during Google it looked like a great tool. I checked the web site and it further looked promising. Lastly, since the web site indicates it "Works with Windows Vista", I was even more encouraged.

I read the tips for Vista users. I strongly disagree with the UAC statement. UAC works fine and it hardly instrusive after a machine has be configured and "personlized" for a given user.

I downloaded the trial and installed it on my Vista x86 machine. It ran great. I did not have to do anything special for the x86 Vista install. The features it offers are just what I was looking for so I purchased an administrator license.

Then came the problem. I am transitioning to Vista x64 so I installed VNCScan on that system. I received the authorization codes and entered them. As noted in other forum posts, the VNCScan console UI runs fine. However, when I tried to create a new managed group, VNCScan crashed.

I am sorely disappointed with this turn of events. So far, out of all the application and driver installs, I have had only two failures....VNCScan and WinDVD9.

Below is the debug text that was generated by the crash. Hopefully this can be resolved quickly. Vista x64 runs so much better that x86.

Windows 2000 and UltraVNC video driver issue?

I just deployed UltraVNC with VENM 2008.4.4.213 to 70+ computers, about 17 of them are Windows 2000 SP4 machines. I deployed the video driver to all, and so far 3 of the windows 2000 machines went into a reboot loop.

To fix, I ran the uninstall.bat file in the c:\program files\orl\vnc\driver directory.

Is this a known issue?

Feature to allow location of computer via "Find" box

e.g. a user rings me and needs hellp with their PC. The only information they're going to be able to provide me with from their end is the computer name or IP.

I don't have a photographic memory containing all of the hundreds of PC on my network, and which container they're in within the VENM console. Armed with the user's PC name (or possibly IP?) It would be a great time saver to be able to input this into a search function and have the console automatically bring up that machine & display it in the console, ready for connection, etc.

Someone also mentioned a feature to search for a machine via "logged on user" - This would be very useful, as sometimes the "Asset tag" can often be incorrect or missing from the outside of the computer, and users can often not have access to the Control panel in order to obtain the computer name, or simply not really know how to do this, even if you walk them through it over the phone.

No "comments" after upgrading to latest build (Build 2008.4.4.213)

Hello,

I recently upgraded my VNCScan from Build 2007.10.1.8 to Build 2008.4.4.213. Ever since upgrading I have lost the information in the "comments" field for my custom/managed groups. (comments are showing up fine in the domain group, under My Network Places). I have tried deleting/recreating the custom group, and refreshed numerous times (via DNS and port scan) but still no comments. This is an important issue since comments provide a "friendly name" and an easy way for us to identify computers on our network.

Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Or do I have to revert back to Build 2007.10.1.8?

EDIT: I should also mention that we are on a Windows NT network

The current release of VNCScan has a working beta method of deploying UltraVNC version 1.0.4 to Vista computers! We are the first to market with this feature!

While 90% of it has been fully tested and working, there are still some minor missing pieces that you may run into. We don't know what they are so we're relying upon you to let us know what you find.

Here's a quick run-though for deploying UltraVNC to Vista in the upcoming version 2008.6.1:

Launch the deployment wizard as usual
Create a new profile and select "Ultra104" as the version
Set a VNC password (even if you're going to use MS Auth)
Blow through the rest of the wizard answering questions as you see fit.
Watch the deployment process - some errors in the script are normal but others can mean things went badly.

You will want to make sure that Network Discovery and File Sharing has been turned on for your Vista computers. A firewall and stopped services can keep the good guys out as well as the bad guys.

If things didn't work, please post the output of the script here, editing out anything that you feel that you can not freely share on a forum post.

remote computer insists on rebooting in safe mode

I installed Vncscan on a 2003 Server in a VMWARE environment. I rebooted a computer

on the LAN into safe mode, and now, even when I select Full Windows Mode from VNCSCAN,

it keeps rebooting into safe mode. I'm trying to get it t book back into normal mode.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Password Change / Reg file not working!

I am trying to use VENM to change the VNC password on about 300 machines nationwide. Some of them are on VPN, some are behind DSL routers, some are local.

I am testing VENM on 3 local machines and when I try to use the wizard to change password (using change standard vnc password) I always get username or password wrong. I know for a fact that they are correct. When I try to do it using "Current Credentials" it gives me the same problem. If I delete the %HOST% (we do not use domains) it simply hangs at authenticating. I am using version 2008.4.4.213.

I have also tried creating the reg file and when I run that file on another machine, even manually, it does not change the password.

I am using UltraVNC version 1.0.2 on all my machines.

What am I doing wrong?

Example:

HOSTNAME:Authenticating
HOSTNAME:Writing reg file
HOSTNAME:Failure writing to the computer = Login failure: unkown user name or bad password.

I know for a fact that the user name and password are correct. For reference windows firewall is off.

Open PC's in new tab takes ages for thumbnails to show (if they show at all)

Hi all,
I'm trialling out vncscan and so far we are very impressed. I am curious why the option if selecting computers and viewing them in a new tab doesn't work on our computers. We've tried it now on 2 computers.
ie. we choose say 4 computers and select thumbnails->new tab
When we go to the new tab maybe 1 of them shows the thumbnail and the others just have a barameter underneath them going on seemingly forever not showing the thumbnail.
Is there something I can do to fix this?
Also how long should it take to see ... say 4 thumbnails (less than say 10secs?)

1 other qn. When reopeing vncscan how do I tell it not to open the previouse tabs that were opened in an ealier session.

2008.4.4.213 - forcing reinstall after logout / login ... sometimes?

About every third time I logout and login I have to reinstall the console.

When I click the desktop icon it immediately goes into the win install mode and gives the error

unable to locate a file... the file location is

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations\{766B7D9A-006D-4B99-BA57-D337BFEF0D3D}\

If I click OK on the error box it then complains about finding the msi file and won't continue.

I then uninstall and re-install, it works (for a while) .

Any ideas ?

Platform is

WinXP pro SP2 + all patches and upgrades

in a domain, I'm logged in as domain admin/local admin

This started after the upgrade to 2008.4.4.213.

RDP information on Boztek Documentation page incorrect?

When the home page comes up in VENM, there is a list of documentation links.

One of these concerns enabling concurrent RDP sesions on a Windows XP SP2 equipped PC.

You can apparently replace the SP2 Terminal Server .dll with a previous one that allows concurrent connections, as the SP2 release had this feature removed for some reason.

However, when I investigated one of the additional info links, namely the one titled "An installer for the above", the author of the RDP patch availabel for download from this site advises that concurrent connections are only possible ".....if you have FAST USER SWITCHING enabled, and your Windows (computer) is NOT in a domain."

Can someone confirm if this is the case?

If so, the RDP "patch" is completely useless for anyone using RDP in a Domain environment, or a network where fast user switching isn't enabled. (Which would be pretty much every IT administrator out there, I would have thought). The VENM documentation should advise this fact very clearly, otherwise System Administrators will waste their time trying to find out about the patch when they most likely can't use it, like I did.

Multiple issues using VENM to deploy & connect with VNC

I'm having all sorts of problems trying to use the VNCScan Console to push out Ultra or RealVNC, and I'm very confused as to where I'm supposed to put in credentials, and how this effects putting in credentials elsewhere. I've tried pusihing out VNC to over 50 machines, and at this stage can only successfully remote to about 8 of them?

Some machines return the error "Connection refused" with UltraVNC installed, only to suddenly connect once Ultra is uninstalled and RealVNC4 is pushed out.

Other times neither flavour allows connection, returning the error "Connection refused" or "Failed to connect to server". This is despite physically going to these machines and checking that the firewall is off, both machines can ping each other, and that I've started the VNC service before attempting to conect. I've even tried adding both the 5800 & 5900 ports to the XP firewall exceptions list, even though the firewall is off, just in case this makes a difference, but still no luck?

Sometimes Fastpush returns errors advising "Access Denied" when trying to access local shares on the target machine, even though in the VNC install profiles I've created I've entered the domain admin username and pasword under "Use alternative log in credentials". I've also tried letting it run under my own username and password (I'm a member of domain admins) and also tried entering the local machine administrator username & password just in case that works, but to no avail.

Can anyone advise what I might be doing wrong?

I've searched VNCScan on the Regsoft site but they only sell an old version of VNCScan (2005.12.20).

Could you document the sequence for lookup and use of username and passwords. There are several different levels and locations for storage of several usernames and passwords. Some are VNC some are windows RDP some are windows admin use and some appear to be duplicates. I'm having trouble getting the login to work right, it seems to be only using the Preferences level in some cases.

Connection Rejected

I have two profiles setup to deploy VNC to workstations. On is the default and works fine. The second is one that I created. Both deploy fine. When I connect to the "default" deployment I can connect. When I try to connect to a workstation that was setup using second profile all I get is "connection rejected".

I've perused the settings on both profiles and cannot seem to find the error in my ways. Does anyone have any ideas?

UNinstalling UltraVNC

I need to uninstall UltraVNC on many PC's without having them reboot. The UnUltraVNC.exe provided forces a reboot. How can I prevent that?
