All New Deployments use DSM - Even with DSM disabled in deployment profile

    Hello,

I've been using the same deployment profile for months now without issue.  I updated to version 2009.6.1.214 this morning, and any new deployment that I've attempted today has pushed out with the DSM turned on even though my deployment profile has it unchecked. I've tried creating a new profile, and come up with the same problem.

    Here is the error:

    Connection Failed - Invalid Protocol!

    Possible causes:

-You've forgotten to select DSMPlugin and the server uses a DSMPlugin

Please help! I'm set to deploy VNCScan to 7 new admins this week!

Re: All New Deployments use DSM - Even with DSM disabled in deployment profile

I can't speak for anyone here at Bozteck, but I do know that a bug has been found with VNC.  The best way to combat against this bug was to either update your client to a new version, or to enable the DSM.

I don't know if this is a bug or not with VENM including it now, but it might be a good idea to change your profile to include it and just redeploy to your old clients to update them.

Re: All New Deployments use DSM - Even with DSM disabled in deployment profile

It sounds like the computer properties in VNCScan is set to use encryption while the server is not.  The "uses encryption" setting should be set to false in the computer properties.  It's in the "VNC Settings" tab.

    Does this help?

    Thank you,

Re: All New Deployments use DSM - Even with DSM disabled in deployment profile

The problem is quite the opposite.  Any new server that I deploy automatically has the DSM plugin enabled despite the fact that my deployment profile has the "use DSM plugin" box unchecked.  It is also ignoring the checkbox that hides the VNC icon in the system tray.

I tried re-creating the deployment profile, removing, and re-pushing the server to several clients, and the settings just don't seem to work properly.  I've since downgraded to version 2008.4.4.213 and the problem has gone away.  I can push new servers without DSM, and the tray icons are once again hidden.

Just so you know, I installed a new copy of VENM for another admin who is starting to use the tool aswell, he has also has the exact same problem.

Re: All New Deployments use DSM - Even with DSM disabled in deployment profile

What version of UltraVNc are you deploying?  I've done these actions and everything has worked in the latest version:

    1. Deployed UltraVNC to an XP computer using DSM encryption
    2. Connected to verify encryption is being used
    3. Deployed UltraVNC to the same XP box without encryption
    4. Connected and verified it is no longer using encryption
Would it be possible for you to paste the contents of the deployment script here while deploying UltraVNC with and without encryption?  Perhaps something in that script output will raise a flag for me.

    Thank you,

Re: All New Deployments use DSM - Even with DSM disabled in deployment profile

Here's what comes out when pushing the client.  I did a little more testing before downgrading my co-worker's version. It seems the settings were working in reverse for him.

If the deployment profile had the DSM plugin enabled, it would be disabled after the installs.  If the deployment profile had the DSM plugin Disabled (as I was trying to do) it would be enabled after the installs.

Re: All New Deployments use DSM - Even with DSM disabled in deployment profile

If you deploy VNC to a computer without the DSM enabled, can you connect manually using vncviewer.exe?  There's one that you can try with at c:\fastpush\vnc7\ultra\vncviewer.exe.

    Thank you,
