2008.4.4.213 - forcing reinstall after logout / login ... sometimes?

About every third time I logout and login I have to reinstall the console.

When I click the desktop icon it immediately goes into the win install mode and gives the error

unable to locate a file... the file location is

    C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations\{766B7D9A-006D-4B99-BA57-D337BFEF0D3D}\

If I click OK on the error box it then complains about finding the msi file and won't continue.

I then uninstall and re-install, it works (for a while) .

    Any ideas ?

    Platform is

WinXP pro SP2 + all patches and upgrades

in a domain, I'm logged in as domain admin/local admin

This started after the upgrade to 2008.4.4.213.

    Thanks,

    Greg

I'm not sure what's causing it, but I would delete that icon and create a new one on your desktop.  I've heard that this fixed it for another customer a while back.

    Replaced the shortcut, same results.

No matter which icon/shortcut/path I use to start VENM it still happens.

BUT not every time, and not until I've loged out and back in.

If you browse into the program folder and launch the vncscan.exe file, does it happen?

Runnin the exe directly causes the exact same problem.

I've gotten a clue.. The problem is that the .msi file gets deleted from the

    C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations\{766B7D9A-006D-4B99-BA57-D337BFEF0D3D}

    folder.

It appears to be deleted by McAfee Enterprise Antivirus during it's cleanup.

I removed McAfee agent from the system and the problem goes away.

I'm not sure if this is a company policy that's implemented (I'm IT and security doesn't trust us...;{)

Why is the .msi being executed? and why is it from that folder? The solution might

be to put the .msi in the normal run folder (as well as the OID) and execute it from there if you must.

    Hope this helps,

    Greg

This is a standard function for Installshield and MSI installers.  It's to allow for auto-healing.  I"m in the process of looking for a better installer for VENM so this may become a thing of the past soon.
