If you are anything like me, you would love to document every change that you make in your technology environment. You seldom do, however, because it often takes too much time and effort to document that change.
This typically leads to a scenario where a service is down and the unfortunate tech who is investigating the failure has no idea that you made a seemingly small change to a GPO that is the root cause of this event.
There are many large and cumbersome change management solutions out there that comply with the strict auditing guidelines of many regulatory bodies , but unless you are under one of these strict regulations, you find yourself opting out of using them because of their cumbersome nature.
I am designing a solution to this which aims to be the “Twitter of Change Documentation” (no limit on characters, though). This system consists of a small lightweight app that sits on your desktop, tablet, or phone, and lets you fire off rapid change updates as you work throughout the day to a system hosted in the cloud. Every change will be tied directly to an object or group of objects.
Your private company portal in the cloud will be where you go to generate reports, add/remove assets, and subscribe to changes made to those assets.
I cannot give many more details than this publicly at this time, but I am looking for feedback from anyone reading this blog who could make use of this type of a solution or provide feedback that could make it work for you when it goes live. We are also looking for early beta testers while the product is being developed.
